RE: Some People Are Clueless

um a atv in the back of this vehicle would have dropped it way more, i guess you would consider that a death sentence too. If i put 2 full size adults in the back of my car, the rear end drops prolly close to 3 inches. i guess i should never leave the driveway either. There is nothing wrong with the picture, a tad of weight in the rear end does not necessarily make a vehicle a death trap. also i would stay out of pa all summer, my rig looks way worse then that when i have it fully loaded, actually i would stay out of pa, va , jersey and new york considering i tow through them all summer and winter There is no comparison to have an atv in the bed of the truck and towing an overweight trailer. You can control weight in the bed with squats some - but it does affect steering ability. The difference with a trailer hooked up is the hitch becomes a fulcrum and pushes the rear of the truck - with out adequate weight on the steering tires, the front tires looses traction and the ability to control the whole set up. I've hauled 2 cu yard of mulch in my old 95 Ranger... tires would rub the wheel wells when I hit bump. Yep it was overloaded - way over loaded. The difference is that I wasn't going down the interstate in 5:00 traffic and my trip was short. Let me express - I'm no way saying that this set up is an absolute death trap... but come'on people, it ain't safe (period).

RE: Some People Are Clueless

To me the posters 4x4 Excursion towing a 30'+ TT without a Hensley would be much more of a hazzard on the road compared to the Ridge in the photo!!! Wow... OK, if I see them again I'll send them your way. For you safety, I'll stay south of the boarder. This is not the worse I've seen - I just happen to be able to snap a photo of this one. I've definitely seen way worse. It just amazes me that people will buy something and load it down with no real knowledge of towing. Do they ever stand back, look and think 'Something doesn't look right with this.' For those that think this is no problem... there are wrecks all the time do to trucks/cars overloaded. If this guy had to make an evasive move or if he it a rain storm or a good gust of wind... well, he'd be in trouble. Not saying he'd wreck immediately and sure, it is possible that he could drive for a million miles like this with out incident, but then again the same thing could be said about drunk drivers... that doesn't make it right.

Some People Are Clueless

I saw this going S on I85 outside of Charlotte yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't capture the entire set up, but I think you can clearly see that this Honda Ridgeline needs some WD help. The trialer was ~22 ft toy hauler with a fold down ramp in the rear... I wonder what was inside. http://i31.tinypic.com/j9tvg4.jpg

RE: campgrounds are full

I would bet that a lot of folks have been planning and saving for this summer's vacation, so all they really need to do is ucome up with extra cash to cover the higher gas prices. I think next summer will be a big difference if gas continues on it's current trend.

RE: camping myrtlebeach

We were there end of March one year....PL had no wifi, though they say they do...used to have to go to office to tap in. I paid to tap into OL while at pirateland...was well worth the $10 I had to pay. I had a good wifi signal from site 607. I think they's upgraded the wifi and have a hotspot at each bathhouse - but it's not free. Some like $5.95 per hour, $9.95 per day, $19.95 per week or $29.95 per month.

RE: Need help with weight distributing hitch

I'm happy with my Equalizer. On our old trailer we had a 'regualr' W/D hitch with friction sway control - I thought it worked pretty well until we upgrade to the Equalizer... what a difference. Look at the hitch as a future investment - when you trade up (and you probably will someday) take the hitch with you.

RE: Equal-i-zer Setup Assistance Required

I think you need to readjust your ball height (just from looking). Equalizer has some great instructions on thier website -> Installation Instructions. Also, you may want to check the torque on the arm brackets - they should be at 45 ft-lbs.

RE: Gas Milage Mods??

Nope - if I'm not mistaken, vehicles did start getting 'computerized' until 1995 (or at least it became mandatory in 1996). But since RV chasis are generally 1 year behind production, your '93 is probably actually a '92. As far as the other stuff - it might get you a little better performance, but will probably not do much for MPGs. The best you can do is regular maintenance. Of course this is my opinion and I could be wrong.

RE: Followup to the fatal crash

I also know this stretch of I77 and with the downward grade & heavy load, all it takes is a little lost attention to speed and before you know it you can be out of control. My heart goes out to the surviving children and family members.

RE: Bunkhouse Ideas-- Experience

A littel bit longer that what you mentioned, but my favoriate is the Keystone VR1. I think it makes great use of space, plus I like the bunks upfront and between the bottom bunks, you can place a sheet of plywood and extend the bunks to nearly a king sized bed.

RE: Best NC coast campgrounds

We stayed at Ocean Waves Campground in Waves, NC - on the OBX between Hatteras and Nags Head. There are 3 good campgrounds in the area - Camp Hatteras and Cape Hattera KOA are the others - and they are all right in the middle of the OBX. It worked good for us because it allowed us to go South to Hattesas and Ocracoke, or North to Nags Head, Jockey's Ridge and Kill Devil Hills... 30 to 45 minutes in either direction. Since you have 2 kids, Camp Hatteras or the KOA may be a better pick because they have more family activites.

RE: OBX CELL PHONE SERVICE

We have Sprint and had coverage up and down the OBX... roaming sometimes, but still had coverage. We pay for unlimited roaming so it was no issue for us.

We did a drive thru while we were at PL last week - it's nice SP with some nice walking trails and supurb beach... I think you'll enjoy it.

RE: Hot water heater electric on or off?

First - I would think the hot water heater didn't really use that much electricity anyhow. Second, it probably uses the least to keep the water hot than it would to reheat water that had gone cold due to it being turn off. My assumptions are that this is a standard 6-10 gallon RV water heater.

RE: Weigh Stations

Routinely, 'recreational vehicles' are not required to stop at DOT Weigh Stations... however, a DOT Officer or State Trooper could stop and weigh any vehicle they deem necessary.

RE: camping myrtlebeach

We just returned from a week at PL - we had a great time. Overall, the CG was clean and the staff we nice. We had an issue with our power connection flipping the breaker a few times - told the front desk and within 15 minutes someone was there to fix it. He said the fuse was old and replaced it - he also said my plug was 'dirty' and he cleaned it with some emory coth. The DW said, to change things up, next time we'll stay at OL.

RE: How to aim antenna with digital tv?

The box I got form WallWorld has an option under the menus for 'Antenna', when selected it shows a signal strength bar across the picture. I just rotate around until I get a good signal.

RE: Tired of Tires

Was an all rubber valve stem? Or was it a metal valve stem? I made sure I got all metal stems when I had my tires changed out. They can still fail, but they are less likely and they are designed for higher pressures.
